Day of the Dead Celebration
October 28 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pmFree
Carr House will be open for Day of the Dead activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 28th. Mike Foster’s Day of the Dead videos filmed in Sonora and Sinaloa will be shown, and talks will be given in the auditorium at 12:30 and again at 1:30. Displays including open altars will be available all day long throughout the house and outside, and traditional refreshments will be available starting at about 11:30.
Please bring any offerings you would like to share in the community altars. This may include food, flowers, photos of deceased loved ones, poems and other decorations. Everyone is welcome to eat food offerings from our altars after the last presentation is over at about 2:15. Come early to construct your own altar and share stories about your loved ones and how you have observed Day of the Dead in your life. You are welcome to paint faces and wear costumes. Please come join us in our fine Southeastern Arizona autumn atmosphere for this Mexican holy day that can also be celebrated like a holiday.
For safety reasons occupancy in Carr House is limited to 49 people. In the past, the audiences for some popular programs have exceeded that number. Please arrive early to be sure you get a seat, as additional visitors over the limit will not be admitted while the program is going on. Overflow guests will be invited to watch a live stream of the program at our outside picnic area.
